EFT Q & A ?
Q. What is EFT?
A. EFT is often described as acupuncture for the emotions. It is a self help technique using the fingertips instead of needles to touch certain points on the face and body. See What Is EFT.
Q. Can I treat myself?
A. EFT is a self help tool. So Yes, you can help your self. EFT has a high success rate of 85%, even with beginners. If you work on yourself you will be able to make many changes in your well being and performance. Just remember the golden rule of "Dont Go Where You Dont Belong", which means, use your judgement and if it looks too deep or traumatic, or you are emotionally not well, better to go to a practitioner.
Q. What if EFT is not working?
A. EFT should work on you. If it is not please go to EFT Not Working.
Q. What if the Pain Moves?
A. That often happens with EFT. It is fine. Just Keep tapping, and change words accordingly. So "this pain in my shoulder may be this pain in my arm". In this case just continue tapping till pain is 0 or near 0.
Q. What if I forget a point?
A. No problem. Just keep tapping. EFT is a very forgiving process. You can miss a point, and just continue.
Q. Why Do I keep yawning?
A. That is fine. EFT moves energy, and yawning tells you that things are shifting. So that is GOOD!, and you are getting results.
Q. What if I say the wrong words?
A. Nothing to worry about, EFT works with your intentions. The words are not that important, as long as you are tuned into the issue.
Q. How do I know what to say?
A. Say what you are saying to yourself. "I hate the way that man talks", or " I can not work with this migraine headache...."
Q. Do I have to believe that EFT works for it to work?
A. EFT works whether you believe or not. In fact working with skeptics is always rewarding as they become proponents.
Q. Can I use EFT on my child?
A. Yes, you can use it on children and they respond beautifully. Its also good to teach them to tap daily before they sleep to erase whatever bothered them during the day.
Q. Why Do I need a Coach
A. A coach is trained to help you uncover the real issue, and guide your tapping, so you get the best results. A coach is also trained to gently deal with traumatic events using various EFT techniques as he/she sees appropriate.
Q. How do I know the coach is good?
A. Make sure you work with a trained certified coach. Go to AAMET to find one near you. Or contact me to recommend a coach to work with you.
Q. What happens in a session?
A. The coach will ask you what is going on, and taps with you. A coach may give you homework of tapping to do till the next session.
Q. Is it safe?
A. EFT is safe, even children can use it.
Q. What can I use EFT for?
A. EFT can be used for almost everything, from emotional issues, physical pains, to improving performance, to removing phobias, releasing weight. For more information go to What Can EFT Do?
Q. How long does the process take?
A. EFT takes a few minutes, as short as a minute.
Q. How many times a day should I tap?
A. There is no rule. EFT is emotional washing. So every time you feel you need it, just Tap. You would not leave your hands dirty would you? Tap as much as you need, depending on your day. The more you incorporate tapping into your life, the calmer you will feel.
Q. How many issues a day can I tap?
A. You can tap as many issues as you want. You can tap all day. Just be gentle in tapping your face.
Q. Why do we say negative statements?
A. Although its sounds against positive thinking to say negative statements, however your mind is saying them anyway. It is better to acknowledge your real feelings, and accept them. So in EFT we voice the true feeling, work through it by tapping, so we can move to making peace with it.
Saying positive statements, when you do not believe them does not work. You must recognize your true feelings or a lot of "yea, yea, but" come up, or more like "you know that is not true".
Q. Why do we say "I totally and completely love and accept myself"?
A. This is a fantastic affirmation of self love and acceptance. It basically says no matter what, I love myself, which is very assuring to the mind and body.
Q. What if I dont want to say "I love and accept myself"?
A. The standard saying is the best, but you can substitute a number of other statements such as "I am O.K.", or "I choose to accept my self", or "I could maybe accept myself", or something similar.
Q. Why did I feel worse after doing EFT?
A. That is possible, for a short while, by doing EFT you have tuned in to the problem, and brought its feelings, and similar events all up. Actually it is good, because now you have gotten to the feelings which are there, and to finally deal with it. Just keep tapping on all the feelings and memories that come up, till you feel calm.
Q. Will the results last?
A. Yes, if you have taken all the aspects around it. At times it feels like it came back, but its usually another part of the issue.
Q. How does it help with sports or other performance?
A. Because we often have beliefs about what we can and can not do, these are often called limiting beliefs. These beliefs limit our performance in many areas. EFT works with those beliefs to tell the mind, these are not true, and thus one can perform much better.
It also works on the fears and emotions related to the task. These emotions and fears are often unfounded and also not facts. For example, if you had a bad experience speaking to your 4th grade class, you carry that experience with you, and fear people making fun of you, or you forgetting your speech. But that is not necessarily what will happen today.
Q. If EFT is so simple, why do I need a coach?
A. Although EFT is a self-help tool, that can be used successfully by many people for many things, still you need to have some expertise to deal with big/deep issues. When you start to learn to cook, you can do simple recipes, and you dont expect to be able to make fancy recipes. Same thing with EFT, you can help yourself and others with many many issues, but if it is a trauma, or complicated issue, it is best to get help from a trained, certified EFT coach. Gary Craig, the founder advises, "dont't go where you dont belong". This you wil know, intuitively that this is not an issue to handle alone.
Q. What will the coach add or do for me?
A. An EFT Practitioner facilities your healing process. A practitioner will help you ask the right questions, help you see the issues, help you see the beliefs, and help you deal with what comes up in a gentle way. An EFT practitioner will also keep you focused on the issue or goal.
An EFT coach uses questions, journalling, reframing, parables, tapping, and other skills to help you heal yourself, in a safe, gentle way. EFT practitioners are skilled in "the art of delivery" of EFT. In short a practitioner will guide you, be with you, make the journey shorter, easier, and more effective.
Q. When do I get an EFT coach?
A. When its too big to work on by yourself. When it is a trauma, (death, abuse, accident) its not recommended to work by yourself.
Also coaches are good for getting fast results. Even if you can do it yourself, why not let a professional guide you and you get real lasting results. These could be performance issues (public speaking, performing well on exams), or phobias and fears, or persistent migraines, or any other issue.
A coach is good when you know you dont want to do it by yourself, you need guidance and support. An EFT practitioner will be able to help you find the root cause and is able to keep a distance, and perspective, and focus on clearing the issue, in the gentlest way.
Q. Do I have to tell my secrets for EFT to work?
A. EFT can be done without having to tell your secrets. A practitioner will be able to help you even without knowing the issue.
The is the beauty of this to
Q. What results do I expect by working with an EFT coach?
A. You get results faster than any other tool, or way known on the planet. You get clarity, and understanding, and you get to release the issue, and you get to feel better about yourself, and you get much more by working on a coach who will open up many new perspective on the issue, and also by going to a coach for a few sessions, you get to learn how to do EFT in a deeper, more profound and more effective way.
Q. Do I have to say the statements while tapping out loud?
A. What is important is you are focused on the issue. Saying them out loud works good for that. I also believe by saying it out loud you use different parts of your brain and that is good too. You can say them silently when its not possible to tap out loud.
Q. How can EFT deal with such a variety of issues?
A. This is because as the discovery statement of EFT says "the cause of all negative emotion is an imbalance in the energy system", so at the core varying issues are all the same. All the reactions to feelings, responses and physical symptoms can be addressed by balancing the energy system. Once we balance the energy system, the fear, the depression, the sadness, or the physical pain is released.
Q. Are there side effects of using EFT?
A. EFT has no known side effects, other than at times some sleepiness or fatigue. This does not mean that you will not experience adverse side effects. Your use of EFT means you take full responsibility for the results and for your physical and emotional well being. Having said that, EFT is gentle, safe, non-invasive
Q. How many sessions will I need?
A. It all depends on you. There are no rules. Everyone is different, and every issue is different, there are "One Minute Miracles" where is a very short time the issue is resolved, but most issues have so many aspects, that it will probably take a few sessions. The rule is to keep tapping on the issue and aspects that come up till all of them are rated 0. If all these rate 0 then you probably got the root cause, and that means your change/relief is permanent.
Q. What if I have had the illness for years?
A. It does not matter, EFT still works, and experience has shown that even illnesses or pains of many years can be released.
Q. How can I learn to be an EFT practitioner?
A. Contact me for information and support in how to become a practitioner and help yourself and others. I am the Egypt representative for AAMET, but I can help anyone, anywhere find the best way to become a practitioner.
Q. What can I do to learn more about EFT and how it works?
A. First go through the whole web site, and then check out the Official EFT Tutorial, by going to side panel and clicking on it, which will take you to Gary Craig's (founder of EFT) web site where you will find many free resources.
Q. Does EFT hurt?
A. EFT is painless. It is stating affirmations, and tapping very gently on certain points on the face and body.
Q. Can the issue come back?
A. No. If it has been completely eliminated. If it comes back, either you did not reach 0, or there are aspects that you have not worked on. Just see what is coming up, and start tapping, and this time watch for what else about this issue is bothering you. Or you may remember other incidents that are similar. By working on all that comes up, you tear down "the trees in the forest", and at one point the trees will all fall. Just keep tapping.
Q. Why does EFT work, when often nothing does?
A. Because EFT works on the energy patterns. All our experiences are filed in our bodies, but as energetic imprints, or files. Anger, fear, sadness etc. when not released, can show up in diseases such as cancer, arthritis, neck pains, and other pains. EFT works on rebalancing of the energy, and and hence often works when all else fails.
